Fun Mindfulness Meditation for your Toddler

I like to get my kids practicing mindfulness for all the benefits. I have a few mindfulness meditations my toddlers love to do, but this one is my 2 year olds absolute favourite. We call it, ‘The Wiggles’, it is great for teaching them to be present in the moment, aware of their body and more. We have added it to their bedtime routine. I do it with my kids while they are laying in bed. You say, “good night” to each body part and then wiggle it. Do this with your child:

The Wiggles

Take a big deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Say, “good night toes”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night feet”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night legs”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night bum”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night tummy”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night shoulders”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night arms”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night hands”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night fingers”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Say, “good night head”, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle them.

Mindfulness is a state of awareness in the present moment. Adding mindfulness to your child’s routine daily has many benefits. Its great for kids and adults alike for regulating emotions, helping reduce stress, anxiety, reactivity. It improves sleep, mental health, wellbeing, self esteem, build relationships, helps people deal with adversity, bullying, increases memory, resilience and so much more. ‘The Wiggles’ is a great way to start adding mindfulness meditation to you and your child’s daily routine.
